Náhoda mě tentokrát zavála až do rovníkové Afriky. Tak dlouho jsme s přítelkyní vybírali místo na Kapverdských ostrovech až na nás vyskočila nabídka cestovní kanceláře Hydrotour na dovolenou v Gambii. Po rychlém zmonitorování země a zjištění, že i zde jsou vhodné podmínky pro surfing, již nebylo co řešit. Naprosto jsme se pro tuto možnost nadchli. Nutno přiznat, že jsme rozhodně nelitovali.
Gambie je malý stát, rozlohou dokonce nejmenší na africkém kontinentu. Leží při pobřeží Atlantského oceánu. Jeho jediným sousedem je Senegal. Žije zde odhadem 1,857 milionu lidí, a co mě osobně utkvělo v paměti je, že zde není žádná hora. Gambie je dokonalá placka a nejvyšší bod je bezejmenné místo nacházející se na severovýchodě Gambie u hranic se Senegalem (53 m n. m.)
My jsme pobývali
v oblasti Serekunda, což pro Čecha zní zajímavě. Význam tohoto slova je ale
ve skutečnosti "místo kde žil Sere". Hned vedle pláže hotelu African princess
má Tom surfovou školu Gandah (https://www.facebook.com/GambiaSurf/). Prkna jsou
pravda trochu omšelejší, zato Vás bude čekat perfektní přátelský přístup a
příznivá cena. Půjčovné je jen 10€ za hodinu a půl. Spot je hned u školy, ale
surfovat se dá i na jiných místech po pobřeží. Tom děla někdy celodenní výlety
autem, kde Vás zavede právě na vzdálenější místa. Surfováním opravdu žije a rád
se s Vámi pobaví, poradí a předá něco ze svých zkušeností.
Pláž je písečná, bez kamenů a pro surfování velmi bezpečná. Ideální podmínky zde najdou hlavně začátečníci a mírně pokročilí. Vlny jsou zde do 2 metrů a teplota vody se pohybuje okolo 24 °C. Na surfování tedy stačí jen plavky a lycra. Tu doporučuji, protože některé dny zde teplota stoupá až k 40°C a slunce je zde opravdu agresivní. Ideální doba na návštěvu Gambie je v únoru, nebo březnu. Neprší zde a je minimální možnost nákazy malárii.

This time the coincidence led me to Equatorial Africa. Together with my girlfriend we were choosing a place in the Cape Verde Islands but then jumped on us the offer from the travel agency Hydrotour for a holiday in the Gambia. After a quick monitoring of the country and finding that there are suitable conditions for surfing, there was nothing to solve. We were very excited about this possibility. Admittedly, we certainly did not regret it.
Gambia is a very small country, the smallest on the African continent. Is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and the only neighbor is Senegal. There live around 1,857 million people and what I personally remembered is that there is no mountain. Gambia is a perfect badge and the highest point is a nameless place in the northeast of the Gambia with only 53 meters above sea level.
We stayed in the area of Serekunda which sounds interesting for the Czechs. But the meaning of this word is actually "the place where Sere lived." Right next to the African princess beach stay Tom´s Gandah Surf School (https://www.facebook.com/GambiaSurf/). The boards are a little bit shabby, but you will have a perfect friendly approach and favorable price. The rent is only 10 € per hour and a half. The spot is right next to the school, but you can surf also in other places along the coast. Tom makes some day trips by car where he takes you to more distant places. He really lives for surfing and likes to have chat with you, or shares some of his experience.
The beach is sandy, stone-free and very safe for surfing. Ideal conditions for beginners and intermediate surfers. The waves are within 2 meters and the water temperature is around 24 ° C. All you need for surfing is swimsuit and lycra. I recommend it, because some days the temperature rises to 40 ° C and the sun is really aggressive. The ideal time to visit Gambia is in February or March. It does not rain here and there is minimal possibility of malaria infection.
Der Zufall hat mich diesmal bis ins äquatoriale Afrika geführt. Meine Freundin und ich haben uns lange einen Ort auf den Kapverdischen Inseln ausgesucht, dann aber das Angebot des Reisebüros Hydrotour für einen Urlaub in Gambia aufgetaucht ist. Nach einer schnellen Überwachung des Landes und der Feststellung, dass es hier geeignete Bedingungen zum Surfen gibt, gab es nichts mehr zu lösen. Wir waren absolut begeistert von dieser Möglichkeit. Ehrlich gesagt, wir haben unsere Entscheidung nicht bereut. Gambia ist ein kleiner Staat, selbst der kleinste auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent. Es liegt am Ufer des Atlantischen Ozeans. Sein einziger Nachbar ist Senegal. Schätzungsweise 1,857 Millionen Menschen leben hier. Gambia ist komplett flach und der höchste Punkt ist der namenlose Ort im Nordosten Gambias an der Grenze mit Senegal (53 m über dem Meeresspiegel). Wir waren im Region Serekunda. Die Bedeutung des Wortes ist eigentlich "der Ort, wo Sere lebte". Direkt neben dem Strand des African Princess Hotels befindet sich die Gandah Surf School (https://www.facebook.com/GambiaSurf/). Die Boards sind wirklich ein bisschen schäbig, aber Sie können einen perfekten, freundliches Verhalten und einen günstigen Preis erwarten. Die Leihgebühr beträgt nur 10 € für 1,5 Stunden. Der Spot befindet sich direkt neben der Schule, aber Sie können auch an anderen Orten entlang der Küste surfen. Tom macht manchmal Tagesausflüge mit dem Auto, wo er Sie zu weiter entfernten Orten bringt. Er lebt wirklich für Surfing und freut sich, zu beraten und einige seiner Erfahrungen weiterzugeben.
Der Strand ist sandig, ohne Steine und sehr sicher zum Surfen. Ideale Bedingungen finden sich hier vor allem Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene. Die Wellen sind bis zu 2 Meter hoch und die Wassertemperatur 24 ° C. Zum Surfen reichen also nur ein Badeanzug und Lycra. Ich empfehle es hier, weil an manchen Tagen die Temperatur hier auf 40 ° C steigt und die Sonne sehr aggressiv ist. Die ideale Zeit, um Gambia zu besuchen, ist im Februar oder März. Hier regnet es nicht und es besteht nur eine minimale Wahrscheinlichkeit Malaria zu erkranken.
